Phillip Henderson Named Senior Fellow

CCI is pleased to announce that Phillip Henderson has joined as a Senior Fellow. Henderson most recently served as president of the Surdna Foundation, a New York City-based family foundation that fosters sustainable communities in the United States. During his tenure, the Foundation focused intently on advancing social justice through programs focusing on building communities with sustainable environments, inclusive economies, and thriving cultures. Under his leadership, Surdna committed $100 million of its endowment to impact investing.

As a Senior Fellow, Henderson will support CCI’s work to engage a broader set of actors in community investment by examining the role that philanthropy can play in building local investment ecosystems.

“Phil is a visionary leader in philanthropy and mission investing,” said Robin Hacke, CCI Executive Director. “During his tenure, Surdna consistently ‘punched above its weight,’ by supporting organizations doing outstanding, field-leading work. We look forward to learning with him about the unique contributions foundations can make to community investment.”

“I look forward to helping CCI spread its innovative thinking about how to connect capital with the people and places that need it,” said Henderson.“Philanthropy is a key contributor, and there is great potential to use their assets in new and creative ways to benefit the communities they care about.”
