WHO WE ARE
The Center for Community Investment (CCI) at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy works to ensure all communities, especially those that have suffered from structural racism and policies that have left them economically and socially isolated, can unlock the capital they need to thrive.
We have a well-established framework and approach that community partnerships can use to mobilize investment capital to create opportunities for affordable housing, jobs, fresh foods, and other drivers of economic well-being while making their communities more cohesive, resilient, and environmentally sustainable in the face of climate change. By working through the three key functions of our capital absorption framework – defining shared priorities; developing and executing a pipeline of investable deals to achieve those priorities; and creating a supportive enabling environment of policies and practices to accomplish those deals more efficiently and effectively – communities can access and deploy the investments they need to achieve their goals.
WHAT WE DO
Five years into our ten-year projected lifespan, CCI is transforming the field of community investment by providing intensive learning opportunities, coaching, and thought leadership to community leaders, organizations, and institutions so they can use capital absorption, adaptive leadership, and racial equity tools to achieve community priorities and move the needle on the impacts of structural racism.
- Our leadership development programs train and support community leaders to use our approach: Fulcrum Fellows work on challenges in their own communities, while Field Catalysts develop their facilitation and technical assistance skills so they can help other leaders use CCI’s approach and tools.
- Our multi-year initiatives, including Connecting Capital and Community and the recently concluded Connect Capital and Accelerating Investments for Healthy Communities, provide intensive support to multi-sector teams working to meet local needs and transform their community investment systems.
- Sprints provide shorter introductions to our approach to partner organizations and multisector teams working in targeted regions, sectors, and/or issues.
- Through our influence agenda, we share our approach, learnings, and the work of our program participants through publications, videos, and speaking engagements. We are also building a network of community investment practitioners, including CCI program participants and alumni, who work together to share strategies and experiences, provide support and guidance, and further advance the field.
At the Lincoln Institute
CCI understands the important role of land use and land policy in shaping the flow of investment in communities. CCI is part of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, which leverages decades of research on the use, taxation, and stewardship of land to help communities change the land practices and policies that have intentionally and unintentionally disadvantaged people of color and people with low incomes, creating barriers to investment and perpetuating spatial and social inequity.
The Center for Community Investment is supported by The Kresge Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, JPMorgan Chase, and The California Endowment.
