The daughter of working class immigrants, Georgette Gómez found her inspiration to work for a just society during her upbringing. A graduate of San Diego State University, she has employed her degree in Environmental and Natural Geography to fight for intersectional justice. 

Georgette first worked as a crisis counselor for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. She then became the Associate Director of the Environmental Health Coalition, leading efforts to advance environmental justice. She now has join Casa Familiar, as the Community Development and Policy Officer. 

On December 2016, Georgette became the first queer Latina to serve on the San Diego City Council. In January 2018, she was elected Chair of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, the first woman to hold that position. In 2018 and 2019, she was unanimously elected Council President by her colleagues. 

Georgette founded, Toyon Strategies: Giving root to the vibrant, a firm dedicated to advancing the intersectional justice through strategy and policy support. In continuing her service to her community, Georgette served on the board of multiple community-based organizations, such as Canyonlands and Dreams for Change. In 2021, Georgette was appointed to the Board of Directors for the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District, County of San Diego Air Pollution Control District, AB 32 Environmental Justice Advisory Committee member at the California Air Resources Board, and member of the Board of Environmental Safety for the Department of Toxic Substances Control. 

Georgette and her wife, Dr. Raquel Pacheco, live in Barrio Logan with their dogs and chickens. If you live in San Diego, you might see them cycling throughout the region
