Across the nation, leaders in fields like climate resilience, housing and community development, planning, philanthropy, finance, food systems, and community organizing are working to undo the legacy of structural racism and long-term disinvestment. Whether they are focusing on a single issue or working together toward a shared vision, CCI’s capital absorption framework can help them achieve the kinds of systems change that will undergird equitable communities where everyone can thrive.

Building on the model of our multi-year cohort programs Connect Capital and Accelerating Investments for Healthy Communities, CCI is now offering shorter courses, called Sprints, as another opportunity for teams around the country to learn about community investment, adaptive leadership, and racial equity and access one-on-one coaching, peer learning, and new ways to think about their practice.

Our First Sprint: Toward a Just Recovery

We launched our course program in Spring 2021 with Toward a Just Recovery, which is based on our paper Covid-19, Structural Racism, and Community Investment: Notes Toward a Just Recovery. This four-month Sprint was designed for leaders who are committed to leveraging community investment and who are in a position to tackle a challenge associated with racial inequities and economic marginalization in their communities.

CCI staff are supporting local teams in clarifying local priorities, enlisting institutions that could contribute to those priorities, developing a pipeline of investments to achieve their vision, and changing policies and practices to create a more supportive financing environment. Teams will finish the course with an action plan to tackle the legacies of structural racism, discrimination, and disinvestment that have impeded the flow of capital for financing transformation and broadening opportunity in their communities.

We received such a high volume of quality applicants for this Sprint that we decided to offer two sections. Learn more about the teams selected for our California and National cohorts below:
